Tobias Gad (born 1968-03-28) is a German music producer and songwriter based in Los Angeles. He is known for co-writing songs including John Legend's biggest hit, "All of Me", and for co-writing and producing "Big Girls Don't Cry"↗ by Fergie and "If I Were a Boy" by Beyoncé.[1]
Angelina first covered a song co-written by Toby with "All of Me" by John Legend, of which she uploaded a cover to a backing track to her YouTube cover channel on 2019-01-20. Toby first started to work with Angelina by co-writing (and likely producing) eight original songs in 2022. Upon being disappointed by learning in February 2022 that none of those songs were included on her upcoming Old Enough EP, he wanted to become more independent from labels, and for that reason planned to start self-releasing his work.[2][3] He decided "to start with my ‘greatest hits’, re-recording them with new artists, but also passing the torch to new singers with these older songs I wrote 20 years ago", which led to his Piano Diaries album project.[4] In 2024 he reconnected with Angelina, asking her to cover "If I Were a Boy" for him. They recorded it for the Piano Diaries album, and performed it several times together live in 2024. They also released their co-written song "Bad Valentine" in two versions, and performed it and another co-written original, "Thank You", live in her 2024 concerts in Glendale and Los Angeles. Toby also released a cover of them of "What a Wonderful World".
