Grandfather

From Angelina Jordan Wiki

Assuming Angelina had two grandfathers, they are both now deceased. Not much is known about them by the general public. Her paternal grandfather (her father's father) was probably Swedish, since her father was born in Härnösand, Sweden.[1] Her maternal grandfather (her mother's father) has been described as being Japanese, +  but this might be a faulty inference based on Mery having met him in Japan. +  He might have been a man not of Japanese descent who was simply living in Japan at the time. This needs to be investigated further.

"First" grandfather

One of Angelina's grandfathers died on 2018-03-04.[2] For reasons that will be discussed below, it appears that this was her paternal grandfather. In a Facebook post made on that day, Angelina said of him:

Our family lost a treasure today, my grandfather passed away. He was very close to me and have always supported me in everything I did. He always made me smile, laugh and gave me great life lessons. He was a man who got respect from all over the town, always helped people in need, he was the definition of a true gentleman and generous man with a big heart. He will be remembered by homeless people he helped to be able to make a living. He was in deep pain for a couple of months now, he will no longer suffer from the pain.[2]

It is not clear whether this grandfather had been living in the U.S. or in Europe (which Angelina had just moved away from no more than a few months before).

Shortly afterwards, she dedicated a performance of "Always on My Mind" (posted on 2018-03-10) to him, calling him "my grandpa".[3] The picture of him from Angelina's Facebook post can be seen in that video, as well as in her video for "Happier" (posted on 2019-04-11)[4] and her "official music video" for "Million Miles" (posted on 2021-01-17).[5] Angelina has also said that her version of "Bohemian Rhapsody" reminds her of him.[6]

"Second" grandfather

Another of Angelina's grandfathers died on 2019-11-21.[7][8] He was referred to as "My dad" by Michael in a post to Facebook on that day announcing his death, which read in part:

My dad passed away peacefully today. […] The battle with cancer became too much of pain and suffer[sic] to hold on[…] Enjoy heaven, love you so much Reza❤️[7]

Note that this would seem to indicate that Michael's father's name was Reza, which is a Persian name. But it is also possible that Reza is Michael's own name — i.e., that he was "signing" his message with the name that his father used for him.

In a 2020-11-16 Patreon post by Angelina (visible only to her patrons), she said that her song "Million Miles" was inspired by her "grandpa" who died in November 2019, after having been diagnosed with cancer earlier that year.[8] She also described the moment that the family received the news of his death, making it pretty obvious (without saying it directly) that he was the father of both Sara and Michael (based on their very strong reactions to the news).

Angelina visited Japan in 2017-03, where she performed the song "Kawa no nagare no yō ni" ["Like the Flow of the River"] in Japanese, perhaps in tribute to this maternal grandfather, as well as other songs in English.

"Million Miles" music video

In a 2020-11-05 Facebook post, Angelina said of her first major-label single, "Million Miles":

This song is dedicated to anyone who has lost a loved one. I wrote this song thinking about all the great memories I had with my grandpa and how much it hurts to lose someone.[9]

As mentioned above, Angelina clarified on Patreon that the grandfather who inspired the song was the one who died in 2019.

In the official music video for the song,[5] Michael plays the role of his own father and Juliette plays a young Angelina. About 45 seconds into the video, two pictures are seen hanging in the hallway, one of which (on the right) is the same image of her grandfather who died in 2018 that was posted to Facebook and seen in the "Always on My Mind" video. The other (on the left) is of a much younger looking man. While it is possible that it is another photograph of the same man, it could also be of her other grandfather who died in 2019, and who directly inspired the song.
