Code-Editor search/replace no longer opens

Not sure if it was this latest update, as I haven't coded in a while, but I now noticed, that the search/replace dialog doesn't open when tring to open it with the search-glass button on the right top of the code editor (the one in the normal text editor still works). This is particularly annoying, as the normal browser page search also doesn't find most what's in the editor. The workaround is to temporarlily switch to the normal editor with the "<>" button on the top left, then both is available. --Most2dot0 (talk) 17:45, 1 August 2026 (UTC)

I don't know what the problem is. Maybe Google does.[wink] CodeEditor is a built-in extension, which means it just got updated to its latest version along with MW. Apparently CodeEditor (and SyntaxHighlight, which we also use but only for highlighting in the regular wiki editor) can be completely replaced by CodeMirror after the next major-version upgrade of MW. (I had planned on upgrading directly from 1.43 to 1.47, which should be going stable in November, but if it's really necessary, I could upgrade to 1.46 before then.)
BTW, in other news, Meta's bots continue to be absolute bastards, resulting in wiki access/functionality problems. Now it's their "webindexer" instead of "externalagent" that's hitting every possible URL from Special:RecentChanges. Apparently this is what they mean when they say their bots obey robots.txt. If you tell one of them not to do something, another will start doing exactly the same thing (even though the IPs have been blocked and therefore are getting a 403 from every single request they make!). - dcljr (talk) 01:03, 2 August 2026 (UTC)
I guess since there is a workaround, and the likelyhood that the problem is gone in November by itself, there's no urgency for extra work. --Most2dot0 (talk) 13:31, 2 August 2026 (UTC)
