Angelina Jordan Wiki:Dates

From Angelina Jordan Wiki

Editors are encouraged to use the ISO format for dates (commonly referred to as "YYYY-MM-DD") on this wiki. That is, use something like "2006-01-10" instead of, say, "1/10/2006", "January 10, 2006", "10 January 2006", etc. This is partly for clarity (since a date like "1/10/2006" can be interpreted as meaning the 10th day of January or the 1st day of October) and partly so that dates can be automatically linked to entries on our timeline and formatted according to users' preferences (so one person can see something like "January 10, 2006" and someone else "10 January 2006" — see "Date format" under "Appearance" in Special:Preferences). This formatting is provided by our templates d (for dates that are to be linked to the timeline) and du (for "unlinked" dates).

(Note that the conventions for dates might be changing soon, since the parser function can actually recognize dates like January 10, 2006 ("hover" on the date here to see what it does by default when it recognizes a date), so this could be used to make linking to the timeline more flexible.)

Days

Any date corresponding to a day directly relevant to Angelina's life or career should be formatted using the d template. For example:

✔ Angelina was born on 2006-01-10. → ✔ Angelina was born on 2006-01-10.

Not this:

✘ Angelina was born on 2006-01-10. → ✘ Angelina was born on 2006-01-10.

On the other hand, dates that are not directly relevant to Angelina should not be linked to our timeline. They should be formatted using the du template. So, for example:

✔ "Lonely" was first released as a single on 2020-10-16. → ✔ "Lonely" was first released as a single on 2020-10-16.

But not this:

✘ "Lonely" was first released as a single on 2020-10-16. → ✘ "Lonely" was first released as a single on 2020-10-16.

Notice how this link shows up as a "bluelink" (or purple if you have visited it) but doesn't actually go anywhere in the timeline, since "2020-10-16" is not a significant date (as far as we know) in Angelina's life. (Even if that changes, the use of the date in this particular context should still not be linked to the timeline, since it refers to something with no direct significance to Angelina.)

Note that just using a raw plain-text date like this

✘ "Lonely" was first released as a single on 2020-10-16. → ✘ "Lonely" was first released as a single on 2020-10-16.

is discouraged because it doesn't allow different users to see different date formats if they want to. (See the documentation of du for more details.)

Note also that "dated" expressions using "as of" should be marked up using our special as of template:

✔ This is still true . → ✔ This is still true as of 2025-01-01.
✔ , the channel has 32 videos and just over 480,000 subscribers. → ✔ As of 2025-08-12, the channel has 32 videos and just over 480,000 subscribers.

Unfortunately, the template doesn't actually do much of anything with its input at the moment (including the update-after parameter), but this should be changing at some point in the future.

Months

All months in Angelina's life should have redirects (in "YYYY-MM" format) that point to appropriate entries in our Timeline (this is only starting to be implemented). References to months in articles can be formatted using month, or mo for short (this also needs a lot of work).

More to come…

See AJW:Dates/Months for links to all months that have entries in our Timeline.

Years

Years in Angelina's life and other years that are directly relevant to her (for example, the year her mother was born) should have full-fledged articles with a "Timeline" section containing content that is transcluded into our Timeline. See 2007 for an example of how these articles are formatted.

Other years with no special significance to Angelina should not be linked (including mentions of years that we actually have articles for but which are given in a context not directly tied to Angelina — for example, if an article were to mention that some company or organization was founded in 1984).
