This template outputs two left-curly-brace characters, {{, for use in contexts where that would otherwise be interpreted as wiki markup (e.g., in or adjacent to template calls, or inside templates themselves). The same thing can be accomplished using HTML character entities: {{. (For just one such character, {, use {{lb}} or {.)

The name of this template is based on the phrase "left brace brace".

This template is used on a great many pages. Making any changes to it will cause lots of jobs to be added to the processing queue.
