Template:Infobox song/doc
Documentation
This template is to be used in song articles to provide information about each song in a standardized format. It should not be used in any other kind of article (i.e., about albums, videos, etc.). It works for both covers and originals, but should be called with a slightly different selection of parameters depending on which type of song the article is about, as explained in the usage details below.
The template can be called with no input if you're just starting to write the article, in which case it uses the article title as the song title (this can be overridden by using the title parameter) and provides links to Wikipedia and a basic selection of Google searches and YouTube searches to get started researching the song (as seen in the example below).
Unless the nocargo parameter is provided with a non-blank value, the information is also stored in the "Songs" table of the Cargo database.
Usage
Note that the values of title, original-title, lookup-title, w-title, g-title, y-title, original-artist, lookup-artist, w-artist, g-artist, y-artist, album, and album-article are all (if present) used by the template to form links, so the values specified in the template call should not contain any links, quotation marks, italics, or any other markup. The other parameters may or may not contain links and other markup.
Covers
For songs covered by Angelina, use this selection of parameters:
{{infobox song
| title = <!-- do not link or use quotes -- remove this line to use the page title -->
| title-gloss = <!-- English translation, if necessary -->
| lang = <!-- ISO code, if not English (see Wikipedia:List of ISO 639-1 codes) -->
| written-by = <!-- use music-by and lyrics-by if these are known separately -->
| music-by =
| lyrics-by = <!-- this is for the lyrics actually sung by Angelina -->
| original-title = <!-- do not link or use quotes -->
| original-title-gloss = <!-- English translation, if necessary -->
| original-lang = <!-- ISO code, if not English (see Wikipedia:List of ISO 639-1 codes) -->
| original-lyrics-by = <!-- only if original lyrics are not what Angelina sang -->
| original-artist = <!-- do not link -->
| original-date = <!-- if the exact release date is known -->
| original-year = <!-- if only the year of release is known -->
| original-genre =
| popularized-by = <!-- (other) artists with charting or widely known covers -->
| note =
<!-- no links from here down -- default title is value of title parameter or page title -->
| lookup-title = <!-- song title for Wikipedia, Google, and YouTube links, unless overridden below -->
| lookup-artist = <!-- artist name for Wikipedia, Google, and YouTube links, unless overridden below -->
| w-title = <!-- special Wikipedia title for article about the song -->
| w-artist = <!-- special Wikipedia title for article about the original artist -->
| g-title = <!-- special Google search for song -->
| g-artist = <!-- special Google search for original artist -->
| g-lyrics = <!-- special Google search for song lyrics (if default doesn't work) -->
| y-title = <!-- special YouTube search for song -->
| y-artist = <!-- special YouTube search for original artist -->
| y-lyrics = <!-- special YouTube search for lyrics -->
| y-lyrics-vid = <!-- YouTube video ID for official lyrics (overrides the search) -->
| lyrics-url = <!-- overrides Google and YouTube lyrics (for verified official lyrics) -->
| lyrics-site = <!-- name of website (unlinked) -->
| jazzstandards = <!-- filename at that website without .htm (if relevant) -->
}}
Most of these parameters are pretty self-explanatory, but note the following:
- The page title for a song article should generally be in the language Angelina sang the song in (an exception would be a song like "Bésame Mucho", which, although often sung in English, is known by its Spanish title), and
lyrics-byshould indicate the writer of the lyrics that Angelina actually sang. Therefore:- If the song was originally in a language other than English, but Angelina sang the English version (for example, "Gloomy Sunday"), the page title will be the English title and
lyrics-byshould indicate the writer of the English lyrics;original-title,original-lyrics-by, andoriginal-langshould all reflect the non-English version. - If the song was originally in a language other than English and Angelina sang it in the original language (for example, "Kawa no nagare no yō ni"), the page title will be the non-English title,
langwill be the appropriate language code, andlyrics byshould be the writer of the original, non-English lyrics;original-title,original-lyrics-by, andoriginal-langshould all be unnecessary. - If Angelina ever sings a song exclusively in a language other than English that was originally written in a different non-English language, then the page title,
lang, andlyrics-byshould all reflect the language she sang the song in, and the variousoriginal-*parameters should reflect the other language. ("Glade jul", the Norwegian version of "Silent Night", might have served as an example of this, but she has also sung that song in its English version, so our article uses [or will use] the English title and everything else is [will be] set up like the first sub-case above [i.e., like "Gloomy Sunday"]. Thenoteparameter is [will be] used to explain that she sometimes sang the Norwegian version.)
- If the song was originally in a language other than English, but Angelina sang the English version (for example, "Gloomy Sunday"), the page title will be the English title and
- In cases where Angelina changed the original lyrics and/or title (for example, "Back to Black", "You Know I'm No Good", "Portrait of a Man", etc.), the page title will be the original title and the use of
lyrics-bywill depend on how much Angelina changed the lyrics. In the case of "Back to Black",lyrics-byshould list Angelina, since she changed almost every word of the song, andoriginal-lyrics-byshould list Amy Winehouse. In other cases, where Angelina only partially changed the lyrics,lyrics-byshould indicate the original songwriter andnotecan be used to indicate that Angelina changed some of the lyrics.
The lookup-* parameters can be used to override the normal title (either the page title or the value of title) or artist (original-artist) used in the web searches in the "Research the song" section of the infobox. Whether these are used or not, special overrides can be specified for Wikipedia, Google, or YouTube, by providing values for the w-*, g-*, or y-*. The template itself forms the links, so do not use links for any of these parameters.
The value of jazzstandards must be the filename (without the .htm extension) for the song at the JazzStandards.com website. Usually this is just the song title with no spaces, all lowercase. (Of course, this only applies if the song is a jazz standard listed there.)
Originals
For Angelina Jordan originals, including guest or featured vocals, use this selection of paramters:
{{infobox song
| title = <!-- omit to use the page title -- no link or quotation marks -->
| original = y
| credit = <!-- specify only if song is not solely credited to Angelina Jordan -->
| written-by = <!-- use music-by and lyrics-by if these are known separately -->
| music-by =
| lyrics-by =
| produced-by =
| genre =
| recorded = <!-- recording date -->
| studio = <!-- recording location -->
| released = <!-- date -->
| release-type = <!-- digital single, album track, etc. -->
| album =
| album-article = <!-- if our wiki article for the album has a special title -->
| label =
| listen-purchase-url =
| note =
<!-- no links from here down -- default title is value of title parameter or page title -->
| lookup-title = <!-- title for Wikipedia, Google, and YouTube links -->
| w-title = <!-- special title for WP's article for song -->
| w-album = <!-- special title for WP's article for album (if relevant) -->
| g-title = <!-- special Google search for song -->
| g-lyrics = <!-- special Google search for song lyrics (if default doesn't work) -->
| y-title = <!-- special title for YouTube search for song -->
| y-lyrics-vid = <!-- YouTube video ID for official lyrics (overrides the search) -->
| lyrics-url = <!-- overrides Google and YouTube lyrics (for verified official lyrics) -->
| lyrics-site = <!-- name of website (unlinked) -->
}}
Note: Don't use original-artist=Angelina Jordan to indicate an Angelina original, because the template will take the presence of original-artist as an indication that Angelina's version of the song was a cover. This will result in duplicate and/or useless links to Wikipedia, Google, and YouTube in the "Research the song" section of the infobox.
The parameter album-article is necessary for linking to our article for It's Magic: in that case, album=It's Magic, but album-article=It's Magic (album).

Note that the list of artists who "popularized" the song should generally be limited to:
- versions that charted↗;
- versions that didn't chart but are are particularly well known today (perhaps due to their use in a film or TV show); and
- any other version that Angelina seems to be basing her version on.

Here w-title points to a section in her article at Wikipedia, since there is no article there for the song itself. Also, note that her name is used in g-title because the word "Shield" is too common to search for by itself (this is not done for y-title because the collection of YouTube links automatically includes one with her name in it).
