Why is Events as sub-categorie of Appearances, instead of opposite?

@dcljr: I think this is currently upside down, also according to your discussion of Events in User:Dcljr/Ideas. So I would propose to put Category:Events directly below Categorie:Career. When I created Category:Events, I was thinking of it as a type of appearance, as distinguished from other types. The View, which is now in the category, would not be an "event" under that definition; it would (only) be a TV show (another type of appearance). Admittedly, the distinction can be rather difficult to justify. Allsang på Grensen, for example, I think of as both an event (a recurring series of multi-artist concerts) and a TV show. In any case, eventually we will have articles for events she did not perform at or (presumably) even attend, like Eurovision Song Contest, so perhaps Category:Appearances and Category:Events belong alongside each other in Category:Career. (I think that would be my preference.) Or maybe Category:Appearances shouldn't exist at all. I don't know.
In contrast to all of this, the brainstorming at User:Dcljr/Ideas was using the term "event" in a much more general way: a direct experience of hers (or, theoretically, of anyone) that happened at a certain time and in a certain place, which may or may not have been recorded. That is, it's the most general term for something we could possibly have a recording of. The point of that brainstorming was to separate attributes of the recordings/media from those of the underlying events they were documenting. That definition wouldn't work in the category structure, since it would include basically every distinct thing that has ever happened to her in her life. - dcljr (talk) 20:00, 27 July 2026 (UTC)

I see. I think we should consider the different use cases for categories, such as (A) a means of categorization, and as (B) a means of catalogization, i.e. using the category-tree to provide indexed access to certain types of content. For (A), a Category:Appearances along Category:Events would be sufficient, for (B) it would probably mean that it should hold subcategories like Category:Concert appearances, Category:TV show appearances, etc. But assuming that there will be rather few Concerts/Events/TV shows etc. that we will have an article about where Angelina did not appear, this seems vastly redundant. So maybe indeed just drop the Category:Appearances, and instead have Category:Non-appearances to tag those few?
What I would also like to have is a common root category for the various types of occassions were she (could have) performed. This is to make sure that somebody looking in the category tree will easily find a list of all such occassion-types as sub-categories in some single place, so he doesn't overlook any in the more general pool of Career-subcategories. There would be no need to directly assign any article to that root category, though. I thought it was "Events", but if that term is used in the more restricted way you described, then we should find something else. I was first thinking about Category:Performance occassions, but that would not fit well on pure interviews or use of her songs in movies.
