Angelina Jordan Wiki:Articles about songs

From Angelina Jordan Wiki

The basic structure of articles about songs differs depending on whether the song is an Angelina original or is a cover.

NOTE: Up until recently, song articles were created by copying and pasting the appropriate wiki markup (seen below) and modifying it as necessary. We are currently transitioning to more automated methods of creating song articles. There are now two so called boilerplate templates that you can select and load directly in the create new article editor for creating an article about an original or a cover song. The preloaded text still needs to be modified and expanded upon quite a bit to turn it into an acceptable song article, but the process is better than it used to be.

See below for more information about how we are currently doing things in regards to defining and performances for the performance database.

Original songs

Articles about songs Angelina wrote or cowrote, and/or was the first to record and release a version of, should generally have the following structure (starting with a call to infobox song, including the original parameter):

"<!-- Song Title -->" is a song written by ...
<!-- ... = Angelina should usually be mentioned first (when appropriate) then any other songwriters;
specify who wrote what (music vs. lyrics) when known;
then talk about the first performance/recording of the song: when, where, with whom, etc.
(but less important details can be put off until the appropriate section[s] below) -->

Studio recording
<!-- this is usually the earliest (non-rehearsal, non-teaser) version of the song,
but in some cases, a full live version should actually be discussed first
(e.g., "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Princess of Ruins", "If I Were a Boy") -->

<!-- different videos using the same audio (e.g., music video vs. lyric video)
should be discussed in subsections here;
but videos using different audio (e.g., the "Live in Studio" version of "Million Miles")
should be dealt with in separate main-level sections [==] -->

<!-- rehearsals, song-specific footage from recording sessions, and "teaser" clips
can be discussed in subsections under the things they are related to
(these constitute exceptions to the usual chronological ordering of performances) -->

Live performances
<!-- presented chronologically, in subsections identifying dates/locations/events/whatever
(but try to keep section headings short) -->

<!-- again, rehearsals (etc.) can be dealt with in subsections under the associated "final performances" -->

Cover songs

Articles about songs by other artists that Angelina has covered should generally have the following structure (starting with a call to infobox song not including the original parameter):

"<!-- Song Title -->" is a song ...
<!-- ... = basic information about who wrote the song and when,
who first recorded and released it and when,
and, where appropriate, who popularized it -->

Angelina first sang <!-- or covered, performed, etc. --> the song ...
<!-- ... = when and under what circumstances;
then, if appropriate, the same info about subsequent performances
(the more times she has performed the song, the less precise you can be in this part) -->

Original recording
<!-- this is usually a studio recording released as a single or an album track,
but older songs may have debuted in a different form, such as in a film
(the idea here is to talk about the earliest version that Angelina could have possibly based her cover on;
so if the song was originally sung live on stage, that fact can be briefly mentioned
before moving on to the first recorded version -->

Other performances by the original artist
<!-- when "notable" -- e.g., if they "might have" influenced Angelina's cover(s) -->

Performances by other artists
<!-- generally limited to well known versions, especially if they could have influenced Angelina's cover(s) -->

Performances by Angelina
<!-- these should generally be presented chronologically
in subsections identifying dates/locations/events/whatever (but try to keep the section headings short);
they can also be grouped by type (studio/live-in-concert/at-home/etc.) if that seems appropriate;
rehearsals can be addressed in subsections under the performances they are preparing for -->

Cargo database entries for performances

The article for each song is also responsible for populating the Performance database (handled by the Cargo extension) with information about all known performances of the song. For this reason, each song article should list the performances of the song and the videos of those performances using the special Cargo-aware templates Performance and Video. See each template's documentation for details about necessary and optional parameters. (Note that one video per performance is typically enough, although sometimes multiple videos of the same performance are listed if some of them show things not seen or heard in others.)

Basic form

In the most basic form, with a single performance and a single video, it would look like this:

*
*:

This is the kind of format that was initially used for the entries in many stub articles. What is important to note is that the pid in the video template refers to the id parameter of the related performance template call. If more videos showing the same performance are added, they would use the same pid value, as it is an identifier for the performance, not for the video.

On the other hand, if different performances are added, they need to each receive a different id.

Edited form with suppressed performance display

If a performance is described in more detail in the article text, it may be desirable to suppress the output of the Performance template by setting the nodisp parameter equal to any true value (for example, nodisp=1). The template call is nonetheless needed to add all of the relevant information to the database.

Here is an example:

Official lyrics video
is the official lyrics video, uploaded to Angelina's official YouTube channel on 2021-03-30. It is an animation of art created by Angelina and Mery.

Note that the Performance and Video template calls don't need to be right next to each other. The order does not matter, either, as they are associated with each other via the id/pid combination. However, for the sake of readability by editors, it is advised that the performance entry should precede any related video entries.

Edited form with platform-specific video templates

To support the conversion of already existing song articles to the new Cargo approach, new templates have been defined for frequently used external video link templates, such as ytv and ytvl. Their names have been preceded by a "c" (as in Cargo), resulting in cytv and cytvl. These display their arguments exactly the same as their standard counterparts, but in addition call the Video template with its needed parameters. So they do also understand and forward its specific parameters, like duration, but do not display them in the article.

Here is an example:

Live at Kurbadhagen 2022-07-10
In this performance in her second full-length live concert after the COVID pandemic, also at Kurbadhagen, she gets up to around B–C (perhaps closer to ) in a run near the end of the song.
* — vertical video; starts midway through first line; post-song "takk"
* — left-channel audio only; some pre- and post-song banter
