• Her mother, Sara Astar, is the Norwegian daughter of Iranian poet and artist Mery Zamani and a Japanese father whose name is not known by the general public.
• Her father, Gerry Christian Slattman, is Swedish.
• She started singing at the age of 18 months.
• She auditioned for the 2014 season of Norske Talenter (commonly known as Norway's Got Talent in English) when she was 7, singing "Gloomy Sunday" in the style of Billie Holiday.
• Video of her performance of "Gloomy Sunday" went viral online and led to worldwide media coverage even before she sang in the semifinals of the competition.
• She won Norske Talenter when she was 8, performing George Gershwin's "Summertime" in the style of Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong's 1957 recording of the song (released on their 1958 album Porgy & Bess).
