Wiki markup and HTML markup

I don't understand the line:

table.insert(out, '{| class="wikitable calendar" <table class="wikitable" style="font-size:80%; text-align:center; float:right; clear:right; margin-left:.2em;">')

Why does this look like it's outputing both wiki markup ({| class=…) and HTML markup (<table class=…)? FWIW, in the rendered HTML of the page User:Most2dot0/2014, it doesn't look like the wiki markup part is being used:

That's a now fixed copy/paste error I made when transferring the style from Template: calendar-month over here. Still todo: make the float optional. --Most2dot0 (talk) 07:29, 30 September 2025 (UTC)
