The Baptism site masterplan launch in King Hussein bin Talal Convention Centre at Dead Sea, Jordan was the launch event for the a masterplan towards the development of the land adjacent to the Baptism Site of Jesus Christ↗, attended by approximately 250 guests, including King Abdullah II of Jordan, a number of Royal Family members, senior officials, Christian leaders, and international figures and investors.[1][2][3][4]
Angelina performed "Heal the World", backed by a live orchestra and supported by dancers and digital scenography, likely at the dinner tied to the event.[5][6][7]
Background
Jordan is preparing for the 2000 year aniversary of the baptism of Jesus Christ, and plans to develop the area around the baptism site, Al-Maghtas↗, to accommodate a big increase in pilgrims that year.
The Baptism Development Zone masterplan is intended to transform the surrounding area while preserving its natural and spiritual character. The project includes, besides the pilgrimage village, museum, and wellness facilities, also green areas and botanical spaces, a wilderness park, bird sanctuary, and a botanical garden.[8][3][9]
While there is no direct evidence linking the entertainment program to the launch event, the match of date and venue is a strong indication. Also the video of Angelina's stage rehearsal shows a stage with physical tree structures on its side, trees growing/developing in the backdrop projection, and Angelina performing "Heal the World", which all fits very well to the environmental aware side aspects of the presented masterplan.
Other singers involved were Faouzia, Omar Kamal, and Zain Awad.[7]
In summer 2026, contracts the were signed towards the construction phase of the project, which should run from 2027 to 2029. Watch this video by Economic Modernisation Vision for an update of what is planned: Facebook↗.
