"7th Heaven" is Angelina's second single with Republic Records. It was announced on 2016-03-16 and officially released late on Friday, 2021-03-19, although in some time zones (including U.S. Pacific Time, used by YouTube) it was actually released on 2021-03-18.[2][3][4]

The song was written by Angelina with Mikkel Storleer Eriksen and Tor Erik Hermansen.[1]

Meaning of title

The concept of multiple heavens — sometimes three, sometimes seven, and sometimes ten or more — is found in many major religions, including Judaism, Christianity, Islam, and Hinduism. The concept of a "seventh heaven" in particular can be traced back to ancient Mesopotamia, where the number seven appeared in many Babylonian rituals.[5]

In the Jewish Torah, the highest of the seven heavens, known as Araboth, is where the Throne of God is located.[5]

In Islam, both the Quran and Hadith talk of the existence of seven samāwāt, which can be translated as "heavens", "skies", or "celestial spheres". While the number seven may simply mean "many", as it sometimes does in Arabic, some traditions characterize the seventh heaven as "being composed of divine light incomprehensible to the mortal man [and extending to] the utmost extremity for all of God's creatures and heavenly knowledge."[5]

In Hindism, some of the Puranas describe the last of the seven "upper worlds", Satyaloka, as a "big and beautiful garden made up of flowers" that, while impermanent, is "the highest of the joyful worlds a person might attain".[5][6]

It is possible that Angelina is using this concept to allude to the "other world" she goes to in her mind when she sings, which she has described in the past as "endless" and "full of happiness".[7] If so, then this might be the first time she has associated an explicitly religious concept with that "other world".
