code is unknown to Template:Lang code to en — maybe add it?

Documentation

This template translates 2- and 3-letter ISO language codes into the language names in English. (There is actually a MediaWiki extension that does this, but it is not installed here.)

If no language code is specified or the specified code is not supported, the template complains loudly, as seen in the examples below.

Usage

  • {{lang code to en|code}}

code can be things like:

  • no or nor for Norwegian
  • nb or nob for Bokmål Norwegian (one of the two main forms of written Norwegian)
  • nno for Nynorsk Norwegian (the other)
  • sv or swe for Swedish
  • ja, jp, or jpn for Japanese (but note that jp is really a code for the country of Japan)
  • fa, fas, or per for Persian (Farsi)
  • en or eng for English (but this one shouldn't really be neecessary)

Other supported codes include:

  • fi or fin for Finnish
  • de, deu, or ger for German
  • hu or hun for Hungarian
  • in or ind for Indonesian
  • pt or por for Portuguese
  • sl or slv for Slovenian
  • sp or spa for Spanish

This list might not include the latest additions to the template. You can edit the template itself to see a complete, up-to-date list (and then "Cancel" out of editing when you're finished).

Examples

  • {{lang code to en|ja}} ⇒ Japanese
