Skin's background images

@Dcljr:: both the MonoBook and Timeless skins define shaded background pictures, that can be see when only very short pages are displayed, like currently Template:Video. I find that one of the Timeless skin irritating, as people might mistake if for caricature of Angelina. --Most2dot0 (talk) 12:11, 7 October 2025 (UTC)

Apparently the default background image for Timeless is a very light, transparent version of (part of) this logo. I've changed the relevant setting to use one of the other images shipped with Timeless, specifically a tiny grey gear-wheel icon. I don't see it on the rendered page, probably because it's covered up by the page content. I tried using an empty string instead of an image name, but it messed up the page formatting. I haven't done anything with MonoBook since that image doesn't seem to be as problematic, but apparently it can be suppressed using CSS. - dcljr (talk) 02:39, 10 October 2025 (UTC)

Icons in MonoBook

I've changed the default skin for non-logged-in users to Timeless. As you can see in the edit history, I tried MonoBook initially, but I don't like how it doesn't clearly distinguish between the different tabs at the top on mobile (vertical orientation on my phone, anyway — probably keyed to the number of pixels the screen width is). On article pages and in most other namespaces, the "page" and "discussion" tabs show as the same icon. On template and module pages, the "page" (i.e., "template" or "module"), "discussion", and "documentation" tabs all show the same icon. In horizontal orientation, they have text labels instead of icons. Will look into this later. - dcljr (talk) 18:58, 11 January 2026 (UTC)
